Double the Love: Our Surprise Proposal Adventure

Woman holding another woman in arms for proposal

Knowing you want to marry someone doesn’t mean you know the exact moment you want to propose. This is the story of our surprise double proposal.

Margaret’s Proposal

The date was June 16th, 2021. It was a beautiful, warm sunny day in North Carolina. This was perfect since we had planned to drive out to hike some trails in DuPont State Forest. I (Margaret) always liked the idea of my proposal being more spontaneous. I’m a “trust my gut” sort of person. There had been other moments when I had thought about proposing, but they just didn’t feel right. But my gut told me when I got dressed that morning to bring the ring along with me. I didn’t want Morgan to suspect anything, though, so I spent the entire hike on her right side. That way she wouldn’t feel the ring box in my pocket. We passed a few lakes and some amazingly picturesque areas, but it still wasn’t perfect. Eventually, our path led us to Bridal Veil Falls, and it was beautiful. Morgan’s earth energy meeting with my water energy, the obvious name tie-in…I just knew it was the spot. Stealthily pulling the box out of my pocket, I got down on one knee, and asked her to marry me. Spoiler alert: she said yes! I was so excited that I wanted to immediately text everyone with the news. However Morgan wanted to enjoy the moment a little longer, just the two of us.

Morgan’s Surprise

I didn’t think anything of it, but unbeknownst to me, Morgan had actually been planning this the whole time. That’s why she didn’t want me texting anyone; she didn’t want her friends thinking her part of this day had happened and ruining her surprise for me. She had enlisted the help of a friend to set up her proposal back at our house while we were hiking. As we returned home and pulled into the driveway, I could hear music and saw something on our screened-in porch. Who would’ve stopped by our house while we were gone? Getting out of the car, we headed out to the porch, decorated with balloons, streamers, champagne, and sushi with the gentle crooning of Sinatra in the background. I turned with a quizzical look on my face to see Morgan with a ring in her hand, asking me to marry her (spoiler alert: I also said yes!).

It turned out to be the perfect day for a double proposal.
