This is part of our ongoing series on suit customizations. Today we’re breaking down the three types of darts we use in every custom women’s wedding suit and how each one works with your body to create the fit you’re looking for.
Front Darts
Front darts, sometimes called bust darts, run vertically from the waist up toward the bust point. They pull the fabric in at the waist and add dimension through the chest, creating a contoured, fitted shape without adding bulk. For women with a smaller bust, front darts are particularly flattering as they give the silhouette definition and shape that might otherwise be lost in a straighter cut.
On your custom women’s wedding suit, front darts create a clean, classic look that reads tailored and intentional. They work beautifully across a range of body types and suit styles, and they’re equally at home in a fitted single-breasted jacket or a more structured double-breasted look.
Princess Darts
Princess darts are diagonal seams that run from the side of the garment toward the bust point, following the natural curve of the body rather than cutting straight across it. The result is an elongated, streamlined silhouette that accommodates curves without fighting them.
For women with a larger bust, princess darts are the most flattering option in a custom women’s wedding suit. They allow the jacket to move with your body rather than pulling or gaping at the chest, and they create a smooth, uninterrupted line from shoulder to hem. Back Darts
Back darts sit along the back panel of the jacket, tapering from the waist down toward the hem. Their job is to prevent the back of the suit from looking boxy or loose, instead pulling the fabric in to follow the natural curve of your spine and waist.
For women with a more slender frame, back darts make a significant difference in how a custom women’s wedding suit sits on the body. They’re the detail that takes a jacket from looking like it fits to looking like it was made for you. And in your wedding photos, that difference is visible.
